group of cloudy individuals brought together through lines drawn along
Interstate-5, intersecting in olympia on or around 2005. Since forming,
they have both gained and lost members, recorded 12 full length albums
(only 3 of which have seen proper release), played across the world
supporting such talented acts as Adrian Orange and Her Band, Half
Handed Cloud, Laura Veirs, and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. The sounds they
craft are straight from the playbook of the good parts of Billy Joel,
Fleetwood Mac, and Turkish psychedelic music. Caressing the Rhodes
piano, endearing drum fills, guitars that dont sound like guitars, and
some slamming bass lines: Listening to LAKE is like pouring sugar in
your ears. They'll turn your brain into chocolate, 67% cacao.

INTERNET FOREVER
Besides metamorphosis-ing pop music with the term 'internet', they only fashion darn-fun Original Glazed indie richness that cycles Los Camp's path en route to the Marvellous Land of Oz and all. Rosy pop + wise moniker = A very good band.

SLUSHY GUTS
Steve from Bromancer and Collapse's most unlikely project ever (if you know either of those two bands). Soft, heartbroken, songs that are so open they make the audience feel downright awkward. Distinctly uneasy listening, but lovely at the same time. Bring tissues.

PISSINBOY

Pissinboy was originally Andrea Pirovano's solo project (guitar & vocals), and became a band in november 2007 when Tel (bass) and Graham Mushnik (drums) joined Piro.
Based in Stoke Newington, London, Pissinboy sounds quite dirty and low-fi, with elements of pop, folk, garage, British bored-punk... When Tel left the band, Pissinboy became a duet and Graham decided to play the keyboard as well as the drums.

Doors: 8pm
Entry: £5 Advance From WeGotTickets http://www.wegottickets.com/event/63307

http://www.myspace.com/lakemusicmusic
http://www.myspace.com/internetforever
http://www.myspace.com/slushyguts
http://www.myspace.com/pissinboy
Farina and Chris Brokaw. The pair will launch the release of their
first album together, "The Angel's Message To Me" out in the UK in
March!
They will play 2 sets (from 9.30pm), featuring a magnificent
journey through their combined back catalogues, culminating in material
from the new album.
Expect to be awe struck!

Geoff Farina

Karate/Secret Stars/Glorytellers
Geoff
has not played in the UK for 7 years so this will be a rare treat!
Geoff Farina fronts Glorytellers, but is probably best known for the
abstract lyrics and jazzy, post-punk guitar style he developed over his
12 years with Karate, or as one-half of The Secret Stars, the seminal
early-90s duo that passed around home-made cassettes of songs now
covered by the likes of Ida and Death Cab for Cutie.
"Farina is an
existential detective, dusting the surfaces of his life for traces of
some deeper meaning, sifting through the ordinary to find some
underlying connection." Boston Phoenix
"Mellifluous jazz guitar, irresistible melodies, and heart-tuggingly understated vocals" Time Out London
"There's
always something warming about any record involving singer-guitarist
Geoff Farina, with his blend of lo-fi indie and Steely Dan-influenced
jazz-pop." The Independent

Chris Brokaw

The Chris Brokaw Band/Codeine/The New Year/The Thurston Moore Band/Dirt Music/Evan Dando Band/Steve Wynn band
Chris
Brokaw is one of the hardest working musicians in America and known
throughout as a true gentleman. A great guitarist also blessed with a
deep soulful songwriting skill and dry smokey voice.
He was a
founding member of Codeine; the band that started the Slowcore scene in
the late 80's, then he formed Come with Thalia Zedek, now drums in The
New Year, plays guitar for Thurston Moore and Evan Dando and with a
wealth of other high achieving acts. Chris Brokaw is a rare humble
genius and one of the finest solo artists of our times.

"one of the best performers in the country" Time Out New York
"...ravaged
but beautiful beyond belief, reflecting both the dark, blues-strung
grief of Come, and the lean-lined, horizon-fixed heft of Codeine..." Time
out London
"Brokaw proves himself as an intriguing, highly singular
lyricist and vocalist as well as the most mesmerising indie guitarist
since The Durutti Column's Vini Reilly." (4/5 Stars) London Evening

Formed in 2006 by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller, members also include Aisha Burns (violin), Nicole Kern (cello), and Travis Chapman (double bass).
They self-released their first album, Balmorhea, in April 2007 and followed up with Rivers Arms in February 2008. Balmorhea have toured the US three times and released a limited edition, hand numbered Tour EP at the end of 2008. Their third full-length album, entitled All Is Wild, All Is Silent, which was released early March 2009. Their fourth album, Constellations, will be released February 23, 2010.

NILS FRAHM

Nils Frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. During his childhood he was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski - a student of the last scholar of Tschaikowski. It was through this that Nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. Today Nils Frahm works as a composer and producer in Berlin. In early 2008 he founded Durton Studio, where he has worked with likeminded musicians.
The three instrumentals, which make up his debut release 'Wintermusik' are piano led pieces, coloured with occasional celeste and reed organ parts. The record's equal measures of sorrowful refrains and uplifting passages, combined with a real intimacy that makes for an album you'll want to return to again and again. The songs were originally intended as a Christmas present for friends and family and first released on sonic pieces, hence its winter release via London-based cinematic music label Erased Tapes.
As the curator of the Swedish boutique label Kning Disk's Piano Series, Peter Broderick invited Nils to record a new album of piano improvisations - the result is 'The Bells', which will now also be released on Erased Tapes in the UK, Ireland and North America. The record includes pieces of improvised piano music, which were recorded in the wonderful Grunewald church in Berlin.

Doors: 7.30pm
Entry: £6.50 Advance From WeGotTickets http://www.wegottickets.com/event/72672

http://www.myspace.com/balmorhea
http://www.myspace.com/nilsfrahm
