"A three headed beast of energy, their live shows are chaos and beauty.
THE INDEPENDENT

HOLY DISASTER 'Sounds like 'I found a reason' by the Velvets, yet - and get this- even cooler. Didn't think that was possible, did you?' -'What's on the NME stereo' November 17th

The Screaming Tea Party. What can I say? Complex in their simplicity and a nexus of electricity reminiscent of Sonic Youth having sex with a bulldozer. Their soundscape ranged from tight melodies and lo-fi whinings to punk-o-riffic noise-o-rama. The vocals ranged from Mary-chain stylemurmurings, to screaming, the only way to be heard over those guitars DROWNEDINSOUND
"they switch continually between scribbling punkabilly and utterly stripped- down lo-fi, with magical results." ROUGHTRADE

Screaming Tea Party are a band you're gonna think you discovered when you were 13. They pack in snippets of every record you've ever owned, and sound like a sloppy first kiss that precedes a punch in the teeth, without sounding dated or cliched.
DAZED AND CONFUSED

Stolen Recordings reveal this lovely 10" vinyl package from one of London's oddest and most wonderful bands. Live, they're quite unique, and on record, the many ideas are beautifully captured over a range of stylistically varied arrangements. PURE GROOVE
this six-tracker flits between brutality and sweetness like the two are intertwined - and the more I think about it, the more it makes absolute sense. Tom Howard- MAPS MAGAZINE

Shola talks of how "...he gives people no reason to be angry at him..." a trait which will definitely assist with his progression as an artist and entertainer.
He first discovered his entertainment skills in year 6 but admits to have formally taken up this once hidden talent seriously around the age of 16. Major influences include Nigerian superstar Sir Shina Peters and Fela while his British up bringing has drawn him to also look up to fellow peers Kano and Dizzee Rascal. Currently he is busy preparing for several releases and tours with all the pressures of university one can only wonder how he has managed to stay on top of his game, surely his work ethos should be admired. A famous face around the university circuit, to date AB has performed in front of crowds reaching their Thousands. Opening for PRINCE during his back to back shows at the o2 means he definitely has what it takes. Shola talks of how he has not categorised his music in to any one genre but rather concentrates on elevating his fellow African people whether it be through singing, rapping or MC'ing. His Collaboration is M.I.A on her album KALA was a worldwide hit! The album also featured Timberland!. Since then Afrikan Boy has been a several Tours with M.I.A and himself.

Transglobal Underground return with their 7th album, 'Moonshout', the follow-up to 2004's 'Impossible Broadcasting'. Released on their own label Mule Satellite Recordings, the 14-track album features founding members Tim Whelan (keyboards/ guitar) and Hamid Mantu (drums/ programming), plus the current core members of the collective, Godfrey 'Tuup' Duncan (lead vocals/ congas), Sheema Mukherjee (sitar/ bass), Gurjit Sihra (dhol/ kaos pad) Ravinder Neiyyar (dhol/ tables) and Krupa (vocals) 'Moonshout' presents Transglobal Underground's expansive musical kingdom in four distinct moods. The album commences full-on with some of the most dancefloor-friendly songs they have ever recorded. The sounds and influences are from all over the world but the source is clearly the collective's birthplace in London. Opening track 'Dancehall Operator' is a mix of Brazilian drum and bass and Indian rhythms. Title track 'Moonshout' includes the Romany roots of rap with vocals by MC Rise FM (Hungary) and Shugmonkey (UK). Vocalist Krupa features on the Bollywood pop style of 'Emotional Yoyo'.Krupa's music is an extraordinary blend of Indian tribal beats, urban funk and pop. Having performed and collaborated with TGU for several years (she was featured on their album Impossible Broadcasting) Krupa and TGU break new ground with EMOTIONAL YOYO which is a remix of OH NO, a song composed, produced and originally performed by Krupa. She continues to write and record music in her own distinct, yet varied style. Listen to more of Krupa's tracks and read more about the artist herself on her myspace 'Awal' features Iraqi rapper Naufalle from French/Arabic band Aiwa as well as Transglobal Underground's original vocalist Natacha Atlas who has of course found great success as a solo artist with material still for the most part produced by the collective (this is Natacha's first appearance on a Transglobal Underground album since her legendary period fronting the group). Transglobal Underground's collaboration with Portugal's notorious Blasted Mechanism on 'Total Rebellion' moves the album into a second section of a harder edged territory, with the collective also finally achieving their ambition of writing an angry country song in 'Swampland' (featuring Black Sifichi from France/ USA on vocals) and with 'Cape Thunder' (featuring South African vocalist Doreen Thobekile and Shimmer Baby from the UK) creating a nightmarish vision of chaos. There is real beauty to be found on the album, too, most notably on the track 'Mera Jhumka' featuring Indian ghazal singing star Nalini Pattni which introduces a series of dub-soaked soundscapes with a strong sub-continental drift, leading up to the epic 'Spice Garden' featuring the amazing voice of legendary Bulgarian traditional vocalist Yanka Rupkina. The album's final three tracks (including 'Mag ak Ndaw which features Prague-based Senegalese vocalist Burama Badji) have little to do with anything Transglobal Underground have ever done...in fact they have little to do with anything anyone has ever done - you could say that this is the closest to Elvis that Transglobal Underground have ever come!

The Lodger was formed inside the mind of Ben Siddall inside an LS6 bedsit.
After 3 sold-out limited 7s and touring around the UK and Europe with bands such as The Long Blondes and The Research, the group released their debut album "Grown-Ups", produced by Alan Smyth and James Ford, in June 2007 on Angular Records in the UK, Slumberland Records in the US, Fabtone in Japan and Speak N Spell in Australia.
Critical acclaim for the album followed, particularly on the blogs; the band have featured heavily on the elbo.ws charts since the release along with heavy rotation on US college radio and other stations worldwide. The album was voted as 62nd best of 2007 on AMAZON 95th in Woxy.com's Top 97 of '07. The Lodger completed their first tour of the USA in October 2007 and then entered the studio to record their 2nd album in November. After touring Europe with The Long Blondes in early 2008, the group's second album "Life is Sweet" was released in May 2008. Over the summer The Lodger are playing a couple of festivals and embark on their first tour of Japan, alongside rehearsing new songs for their third as-yet-untitled album, which they intend to record before the year is out.

Cat, Matt, Adey and Duncan formed Esiotrot in the late 80's when they got together to play Tortoise covers backwards. Soon Thomas Stimson joined on vibes, and they went on to perform a series of incendiary live shows, which so inspired Roald Dahl that he was moved to name his latest book after them. After the recording of their now legendary debut album "Schmesiotrot" they recruited brass section Thom punton and John Edom, to record some overdubs and play some shows, and they ended up never leaving. After releasing an EP on unpopular records, and playing a radio session for Hugh Stephens, Esiotrot went on to record their great lost album, 7 apples, which is now due to see the light of day as a series of split seven inches.
Esiotrot have had the pleasure of playing (so far) with Los Campesinos, Danielson, Johnny Foreigner, The Wave Pictures, Jens Lekman, Bill Wells, I'm From Barcelona, Clearlake, Hayman Watkins Trout and Lee, Oil Rig Catering, Lisa Li-Lund, Jeniferever, Pants Yell!, Airport Girl, Fanfarlo, Sleeping States, Sports Day Megaphone, Team B, Hexicon, Spoono, Tea and Toast Band, Airsick Antelope and Sonaura to name a few.

"GROUND DUST" are a five piece North London based band comprising of highly accomplished songwriter/musicians Nick Stephenson, Mark Stephenson, Richard Groves (and driving it all their fantastic rhythem section) Si Hadwin and Joe Brooks.
The original three piece band (just vocals and guitars) did not take them selves very seriously at first, they would jam in meadows late at night near their home town of St Albans, having fun with vocal harmony and playing off each others writting differences. One day they discovered that people actually liked their sound. With local fame came big heads and pretentious ideas, coke, death, general nudity and then finally some excellent tunes that got people dancing and using their brains as well. A few years on the band have an incredible fusion of sounds and unmissable live energy, the rhythm section have really boosted the progressive inspiration behind there well crafted pop songs, the fuzzy bass lines will make your groin vibrate with excitement. You could say they are inspired by fleet foxes due to the harmonies but actually Ground Dust did not know about the Fleets until this year and are happy that vocal harmonies are becoming more recognized as a roots instrument in making good music. "We hope that this may be the reason for a lucky break, we are certainly the British contemporaries for those Foxy Lads". Mark (vox, guitars)
The rest is.. what you hear, so enjoy!

Like many of the best things, Oxford Collapse started as a joke of sorts. And, thankfully that sense of spontaneous fun remained when they decided they'd become an actual band after playing shows around their hometown of Brooklyn, NY in 2002. Yes, Brooklyn. But, let's not let preconceptions about Oxford Collapse's location on a map confuse the issue. This band might be stuck in an era of mp3s and a more general cultural digitization, but they possess a vitality born of blaring tape decks, deafening basement shows and a wide-eyed, bottomless enthusiasm that makes "jaded" sound as dirty and shameful as it should. Already they've released two full-lengths (Some Wilderness in 2004 and A Good Ground in 2005), and a handful of singles and EPs. Taking cues from post-punk pioneers and genre-transcending bands like The Embarassment, Mission of Burma or fIREHOSE, Oxford Collapse construct melodic art-pop packed full of chiming guitars and shout-along vocals ("Let's Vanish," "Loser City") Remember the Night Parties is both restless/nervous and heartfelt, with time signatures that are as urgent as they are unpredictable. At once angular and redefined, detached and immediate, the new album finds Oxford Collapse testing the waters of their own inspiration.
Since the joke began, Oxford Collapse has toured extensively with the Constantines, the Joggers, and Part Chimp. Recorded in the Summer of 2006 at Headgear Studios in Brooklyn with John Agnello (Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady), Remember the Night Parties is their Sub Pop Debut.

AIRSHIP

What They Say:
"Musically, there's been some big bucks spent on the recording and the results are thankfully pretty phenomenal. This Macclesfield quartet jumped immediately onto the MM radar during this and last years In The City and I'm surprised that no-one has quite cottoned onto them as yet, apart from the City Life Social who put them on their show last week. (CLICK HERE to read more..)
Manuel Ecostos - Manchester Music

"On paper, the four spritely members of Manchester-based Airship tick all the boxes required to join the ever-increasing horde of tiresome indie-popettes. However, it soon becomes apparent that these earnest youngsters are looking far beyond the realms of mediocrity, as guitar-laden movements such as 'Call It A Science' demonstrate a highly creative approach to song structure that defies their age. Airship graced their way through an impressive half-hour set that shifted effortlessly from Pixie-esque drum and bass patterns to spacey, layered breakdowns. And the best thing about it? You could tell the boys were having the time of their lives."
James Walker - BBC Manchester, In The City 2008 Review

"Ace Modest Mouse-kind of guitar picking gets entwined with crunchy ex-Lightbody goodness. This is already their third show this weekend, and now Nine Black Alps' throne looks a whole less comfortable."
Adam Silverstein - XFM

Closely resembling a giant centipede in motion Sons of Noel and Adrian grew up in the midlands with many like-minded musical folk. A couple of years ago they moved to Brighton to gather more legs and are now a fully formed outfit with sometimes as many as eleven members or as few as five.
The music is acoustic and falls loosely into the progressive folk niche. At the core are Jacob and Toms tumbling guitars, joined by a colourful host of other instruments to create music that ranges from Shanty to Schoenburg, from deep underground to just above the surface and muses on whether excess can make you a better person and what's to do when your credit's all used up and there's nowhere to go.
"It's all in Jacob Richardson's bowel rupturing baritone, the kind of low end that can level entire cities and bring grown men to tears." (FACT Magazine, 10th December '08)

From its conception as a bedroom-studio hobby in Summer 1996, Piano Magic's trajectory has never been textbook - random at best. Originally, a self-confessed revolving door operation - musicians arriving, contributing and leaving as they pleased - they harvested a catalogue of varied singles, EPs and two albums by 1998. This convey-belt membership also resulted in a plethora of sonic stylings, from smallbeat Kraftwerkian Meccano Pop on debut album, Popular Mechanics (1997) to the breathless, ethereal, multi-layered melancholy of Low Birth Weight (1998). Only in 1999 did Piano Magic resemble anything like a conventional format group. Smooth-talked into playing a Dutch festival which actually turned out quite well, they decided to play anywhere they were wanted and began to build something of a cult following, particularly on the European Continent. They spectacularly showcased the post-modernist baroque sound of Artists' Rifles (1999) at the Benicassim and BAM music festivals. Ironically, the band have never infiltrated the hearts of the British music press - out of time, unfashionable and kinda weird looking, its best not to stay home much. Tours of Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain peppered the next few years. The band signed to 4AD Records in 2000 and delivered their most critically contentious work, Writers Without Homes and the soundtrack to Spanish director, Bigas Lunas' Son De Mar movie. Though oft-maligned, 'Writers Without Homes' was a particularly monumental milestone for the band, as it featured the first vocal recording for 33 years of lost 60's/70's folk heroine, Vashti Bunyan. Post-'Writers, Piano Magic have become closer to a more "conventional group format." Drafting in French musicians, Jerome Tcherneyan and Franck Alba alongside English bassist, Alasdair Steer, Piano Magic recorded The Troubled Sleep Of Piano Magic, for Spanish independent, Green Ufos. This album perfectly encapsulated the live sound of the group - delicate vocals, glistening guitars, insistent drums, anthemic synth washes. A new record, Saint Marie EP followed in June 2004 and featured collaborations with, again, Vashti Bunyan, Alan Sparhawk from Low and Ben Ayres from Cornershop. Piano Magic's 2005 album, Disaffected, stretched fingers into an even more melodic, near-on "pop" sound, magically without dispensing with their notorious depth of emotion. It features guest vocal contributions from John Grant of The Czars and Angle David-Guillou of Klima (the latter, now with her own debut solo album out on the Peacefrog label). In the 2 interim years between the release of Disaffected and their newest album, 'Part Monster,' the band have continued to be prolific and not only in concert (the band recently added Turkey, Poland, Italy, Greece and Portugal to their gig list). Johnson has released a debut album of experimental electronic under the name, Textile Ranch and along with keyboardist, Cedric Pin, as Future Conditional, they've put out an album of electropop on LTM, 'We Don't Just Disappear.'

To date, Piano Magic has harboured over 60 sonic orphans with nothing better to do, recorded 7 proper albums, a double CD retrospective and many, many singles. They've outlived several of the labels they've recorded for and show no signs of stopping. At this point in time (August 2007), Piano Magic is Glen Johnson, Franck Alba, Jerome Tcherneyan, Alasdair Steer and Cedric Pin.

DOLLBOY

Since a typically odd start back in 1999 where the debut show utilised a saw, a vinyl killer and live preparation and ultimate eating of pork pies (this was art in those days) Dollboy has/have been constantly mutating through pure, beatless electronica, acoustic English whimsy, Berlin-school flim-flam and pastoral nihilism. Seasoned favourites of London's Arctic Circle and The Big Chill, the live shows have followed a similarly eccentric route to the records, "Plans for a Modern City" (2004 Different Drummer) and "Casual Nudism" (2006 Arable Records); don't be surprised to see bells, whirly tubes, saws, cat toys and home-made nonsense alongside guitars, synths, glockenspiels and harmony vocals. The third album is set for release in March 2009 on Static Caravan and is considered by Dollboy to be a great leap forward into new territory. Expect an expanded band and a new set of electro-organic magnificence.
